Hello--

I'm doing some assembly debugging, and OllyDbg is starting to just not
cut it anymore. I heard that SoftIce is a powerful debugger, but it
has a 999USD pricetag. Anyone know where I can get a *free* copy that
runs on XP-SP2?

If so, could you please reply or email me at ***@gmail.com.

Thanks a lot.

Do you think this is some random w4r3z newsgroup?

You can request a time-limited demo to evaluate the product.

On a related note, Microsoft makes its own debugger:

I had absolutely no idea that Microsoft had a free debugger for
windows! Learn something new every day, I guess. For anyone who is
familiar with windows debuggers: How does it compare to other tools?
Is it worth using, or so terrible that some other debugger (free or
paid) is much more worthwhile?

(Disclaimer: I am familiar with DOS debuggers but not Win32 and have
been itching to do some Win32 assembler programming)

I used it for a while. Its a pretty good visual debugger. I stopped
using it in preference to GDB not because that was better, but
because Microsoft changed symbols formats and broke my toolchain.

I used it mostly for assembly language debugging under windows.

Yes, really.

WinDbg used to be the laughingstock of DDK developers. About 5 years ago,
someone in the kernel team decided to get serious about WinDbg, and it is
now a powerful and very reliable tool.

You are dreaming. They have license files that lock it to hard drive serial
numbers and other stuff. It might be beatable, but I sure wouldn't want it
on my system without support. I do have a copy at work and it costs about
$2500+ for the Driver Studio.
