disassembler, a piece of software that breaks down executable files into
assembly code that can then be analyzed by humans."

Warning: sarcasm ahead.

Are you saying that the NSA - a perfectly law abiding US government
agency - is about to release a tool which is designed to allow anyone
to illegally disassemble copyrighted commercial programs, and which
could also be used to illegally defeat DMCA copyright protections?

Warning: seriousness restored.

Even if the software is open source, it will always suffer from a
credibility issue and trust issue in the minds of many people, since it
came from the dark corners of the US government's so called 3-letter
agencies.

I.e., is the NSA deceiving people who use it by somehow creating a
backdoor into their systems? I.e., has the NSA hidden secret encrypted
code or internet protocol use that could be used to monitor people who
oppose war, the military, AI use by governments to identify people, or
other malcontents such as hackers or rogue nation states? I.e., is
their website tracking IP's of down-loaders or worse?

Even though there has been some excellent software created by
governments, e.g., TenDRA C compiler by UK government, from what I've
seen, people don't really seem to be all that interested in using
government produced software, even when it could benefit them.
Corporations on the other hand might be willing to accept the risk and
negative outcry due of using government produced software/malware.

Anyway, what's next, a label that says, "NSA inside."? It seems
Australia is headed that way ...
